Seeds of Freedom

An itinerary that describes a very valuable project developed in 6 Italian prison compounds where inmates are given the opportunity to learn a job in the food farming sector

In the year of Expo Milan 2015, an itinerary designed to describe  interesting as well as very valuable occupational opportunities: 6  Italian prison compounds where inmates work –in the field of agriculture and food production-  a number of hours a day, learn job skills, socialize with volunteers and educators, spend some of their time in the open air.

An unusual journey that leads in very different locations: Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi, Pozzuoli, Is Arenas, Massa Marittima, Verbania and Saluzzo. We have been strongly supported in this by the  Ministry of Justice of Italy  namely its relevant Department of Prison Administration. Inmates from so many different countries of Europe, Africa, South America, share their working experience with us, their perspectives, their memories. All underline how the opportunity they are given to work is crucial to their life. Prison directors point out the various aspects of work in jail, personnel and volunteers guide us in this journey.
